Chan W Cheah
Dr Chan Cheah is a SMICS cancer consumer. She cared for her elderly father during his two different episodes of lung cancer since 2003. Between 2010 and 2011, she and her family experienced first hands the personal consequences of lacking cancer supportive care literacy and the different cultural reactions they had encountered and observed regarding dealing with someone dying. Her mission now is to help SMICS address the supportive care literacy and service issues faced by the CALD and other minority groups in the next phase of cancer reforms. Chan’s professional expertise is in multinational corporate management and academe research, specialising in business and ICT integration and digital services development. After caring for her father, Chan decided not to return to the corporate sector and remain in academe to focus on pursuing research projects in improving cancer supportive care services. She is currently involved with SMICS to prototype digital tools (cancer eGuide and eCase Manager) to help improve cancer literacy for enabling people make informed decisions about supportive care and better participate in the case management of their well-being states. She is also collaborating with RMIT to provide innovation research and publication support for these two initiatives.
